The Loayle had a 3spd auto and some a 4speed auto.I believe it was in 1990 that they eliminated the lock up torque converter in the 3speed auto, that was the year they went from the DL/GL to the loyale. They rev'd really high on the highway and you could think the thing was gonna detonate.Nothing you may be able to do to change it.The only problems they had with those trans were one the vacumn valve on the side could go bad and the trans liquid could get sucked up in to engine, two the governor gear could wear out and on occasion damage the governor drive.

It sounds a little high but it's most likely correct. Do you notice the car change gears twice? liquid level in transmission good?

Yes. I had a Ford Fiesta that pushed nearly 5000rpm at about 65. I thought it goed to explode. Just use synthetic oil since the rpm's are so high.
Hope this helps.

I am pretty sure it's really a four speed with the 4th gear being a direct drive accomplished with an electronic clutch. It sounds to me as if you're now reaching 4th, most likely because the electronic clutch failed.

No Overdrive? Is it AWD? The AWD models used a 4.11 gear which could explain that. Taller tires will assist a little.
