I removed the thermostat and put it in a pot of boiling water and it opened gradually at boiling point. My grandmother also put those pellets in my overflow tank last year when I was on vacation. I generally had a slow leak someplace. I had to also jump the relay switch to keep my fans running in the summer. It started on my way home from Church the car started to overheat, so I pulled over jumped the relay switch for the fans to get them working and kicked the heat on full blast. Heat worked great and the fans were too. I got home good 30 minutes afterward. The next morning I went to drive my car, 15 minutes afterward my car started overheating and there was no hot air. I know there's no coolant to get to the block. liquid just boils in the tank and spills out someplace. So I'm back at the point of removing the thermostat. I could largely appreciate any useful info. Thanks

hi
im guessing what about the pump,if the pump went, that could explain the lack of coolant going round the engine. because if the thermostat had ogne, you could still get hot air, just the radiator could blow steam.
so my guess is the coolant pump has gone
good luck

if the 1,8 turbo the rotors plastic fall off the water pump leaving the car with no circulation replace with a new pump with metal rotor,
if 2.8 the system needs bleeding of air or again there's no circulation, if you have put too much sealant in the system it accumulates in the bottom of the radiator and blocks the bottom hose
