2000 Dodge Durango Transfer Case Removal

Replacing the transfer case on my Durango, and the nuts do not appear to be accessible when following the directions in the Chilton manual. On the passenger side, the side nut is obstructed by the catalytic converter. This also prevents access to the top nut on the passenger side, but even if that were not there I don't think there is room to move a wrench.

What is the trick to accessing these nuts?
