The engine cut off, it'll turn over but it'll not fire. Also all the warning lights are on and the gauges stopped working properly. they'll come on and cut off. The lights are shorting out as is the radio. Any ideas what can be causing this and how two fix it or what I need two check?? my dads good with cars and its stumping him, so any useful ideas are welcome..

Consider the ignition switch. Not the part where you put in the key, but the box that's mounted over the steering column under the dash. When you turn the key, that moves a rod which works this switch. I suspect this went bad on you.



Not an easy to get to part, but they're comparatively cheap.
