2001 Honda Civic, Battery is dead, how do I put it in neutral?
My car battery died in my 2001 honda civic car and I'd like to get it jump started, but I'm parked in my garage front end in. I have been trying to put my car in neutral so I can pull it out and get it jump started. Any ideas?

The cover for the shift interlock release emergency release is found to the left side of the gearshift lever when the lever is in Park. it's a small slot that has a cover on it. You have to pry up the put using a small flat tipped screwdriver to get access to the release slot. here is what honda says to do in the owner's manual

Shift Lock Release

This lets you to move the shift lever out of Park if the normal technique of pushing on the brake pedal and pressing the release button doesn't work.
1. Set the Parking brake.

2. Remove the key from the ignition switch.

3. Put a cloth on the edge of the Shift Lock Release slot cover beside the shift lever.

Use a small flat tipped screwdriver or small metal plate neither are included in the tool kit to take off the cover. Carefully pry off the edge of the cover. 4. put the key in the Shift Lock Release slot.

5. Push down on the key while you press the release button on the shift lever and move the shift lever out of Park to Neutral.

6. Remove the key from the Shift Lock Release slot, then reinstall the cover. be sure the notch on the cover is on the left side. Depress the brake pedal and restart the engine.

There is a shifter release button on the shift lever base. Just depress it while pulling the lever back.

Try to press the clutch, if you have a regular. If you have an auto transmission, attempt to press the gas pedal and the brake simultaneously all the way down, while doing this, attempt to change the steering wheel and put it on reverse. This should assist you backed out of your garage.
Hope this helps.
