924 1987 porsche not firing?

Postby IlloderEr » Thu Oct 04, 2007 1:40 am

my porsche burnt up when I tried to start it it burnt all under the hood I rewired everything and bought new parts but the coil isn't firing and not sending spark of to the distributor but when I turn the key to the on position the coil wire gets fire could the key switch be the because of this problem when I turn it to crank it its not giving any power to the coil wire and could I wire the coil up direct or bypass the key some way to see if this is the problem

when I turn the key switch on in the car, then get out of the car to check and see if the poisitive wire on the coil is to get fire it by tapping it to a ground on the body I see a tiny spark but when I get in the car and turn the car over it gets no spark. could this be my key switch doing this or is it any way to bypass the ignition and hook the coil wire up direct so that I can be sure that it's the ignition giving me the problem

it is hard to answer your question without more info. Do you have pressure in the fuel system? Have you checked fuses for the ignition and fuel systems? Your ignition key switch may be the problem but there are some number of other possibilities from your description and it could be tough to write up something for them all.

If you are not comfy digging into this, you will have to take it to a good mechanic. think about that the 1987 924 has the same engine as the 1987 944. it is really a pretty good car.

This car isn't for the DIY mechanic I could recommend you take it to a mechanic who specializes in Porsche.

there is a shorted wire someplace. have it checked by a certified mechanic/electrician.

Call MacGuyver. He can fix it with a bottle of hairspray, a Bic lighter a rubber band and an old magazine.

I had a 924 and I know it may sound simple & silly, but check your ground wire on your battery. They were prone to being flawed. I haved trouble w/mine, replaced the ground and things were find. Mid America is a good place to find OEM and repo parts.

Good luck
