Anyone know about the service history of the new Ford Powerstroke?
I have an F450 with the 6.0 L Powerstroke. Worst engine of all time. 51K miles on it, every injector replaced at least once, turbo hoses keep blowing off, and now head gasket blown. Lucky I have the expanded warranty. Dealer says got to wait till Friday b/c there's another in the shop now with the same problem. have to know about the new engine and its issues with service guys. I know about Dodge and Chevy I could purchase either, but they do not make a ton and a half chassis cab 4x4, however I do not have a local dealer. I live in the sticks. I'm not brand loyal to anything. , if you just bought one and it has some miles on it..I need some serious hard miles or a mechanic that knows it thru and thru. And no, it never been overheated or pulled many trailer miles. Thanks in advance.

The 6.0L DIT engine has had many issues, since it is introduction in early '03. EGR valve carboning up, turbos over/underboosting caused by sticking or seized up vanes on the unison ring, EGR cooler failures. The '05 and up model years have had issues with low ICP pressure caused by failed high pressure pump STC fittings, and worst of all, cracked branch tubes. The 2008 F series trucks will add a pick up box to it is F 450 line. The new engine is a 6.4L with two turbos. A low pressure fixed turbo, connected to a high pressure turbo with a VGT. There are TWO EGR coolers, a fuel and turbo actuator cooler, power steering cooler, and a charge air cooler of course. seemingly, lots of research was done on this car, previous to its scheduled release sometime in February or March of this year. 90% of the repairs, if any are needed on the 6.4L will require elimination of the body to access the engine. so, if you plan on buying one, don't install any equipment that will obstruct the cab from being removed. The problematic 6.0L's have been the "grocery getters". The ones that have been trouble free, are the ones that are "pushed" hard, towing heavy loads, and driven hard, believe it or not.

I have 6.0 powerstroke, beat it to the point that I on occasion feel guilty, pull heavy for the last three years, I had the plastic turbo channel change cuz it was a recall but that is it. Ever think that maby the problem is who is working on the truck and not so much the truck.
The only thing I heard about the 2008 engines is that they can tell if you ever had a downloader installed..
Maby "auto tech 25" is the valued employee that is been working on your truck.

You aren't the only one with this problem. The 6.0l is a part of junk. They put this engine before correct research was done on it .Maintenace has nothing to do with it.IThey have been comming in our shop with same problems maintained or not .It,s humorous that you haven't changed any turbos still .You should talk to the poor tech that has to work on them and ask him under flat rate how much money they loose working on them. Ford blames fuel here, bull %$&^#. they're now comming out with a new one to replace it shows how good they're.I don,t see dodge or gm changing theirs. .I assume that you use your for working you have to love the down time, well all I can say trade it in when it runs again because your problems aren't over and I don,t think the new one is going to be better. They tell us not to put them down at work because it,s not good for business. But I tell everbody that ask the truth .I can stand somebody spending high dollars to purchase one of these and get a part of . JUST WAN&lt,T TO answer TO THE man THAT SAID I WAS WRONG .OBVIOUSLY YOU have not WORKED ON THEM .I TELL YOU FROM EXPERIENCE WHAT they're.ALSO THE WARRENTY man .THE 7.3 was MADE BY INTERNATIONL AS THE 6.9 BEFORE THAT.I HAVE BEEN A THIS FOR OVER 25 YEARS HEY Misc 75 .If you're one of the lucky ones that hasn't had anyproblems good for you just telling you the way it's.Don,t blame the tech for poor quality product. Just go to visit dealer and ask the techs that work on these .If they're honest they'll tell you..

Actually the last man is usually wrong. Most of the 6.0's are trouble free, good engines that their holders swear by. but some of them did have issues early on. I have seen some that were purchase backs, fixed and re sold with no problems. that is the reason these trucks bring top dollar.

its not fords motor its an international motor. they re junk ford is switching motors this model yr back to their own diesel. I was a warrnty tech for ford motor co. Problem after problem plague the 6.0 diesel. just like the trusty 302 ford had to mess with the v8, the old saying don't mess with it if it aint broke the 7.3 diesel is a great motor and hopefully ford learned its mistakes by relying on someone else to give them a diesel. the europeans have diesel hybrids maybe we should look into what they got and why its cleaner burning and better fuel milage.

This article below pretty much sums it up. Ford is sueing Navistar former International, who has been supposed to pay the warranty costs for their engine. The costs are so high that it's bankrupting Navistar.
Who could have although that a company like International couldn't make a relaiable engine. Ford is going elsewhere for Diesels as fast as they can.

The 6.4 if I remember is a international also but was beat to death before they'll introduce them.. plus training is seemingly better this go around. have not seen a 6.4 still in person so I can not tell you how they're holding up still.

I will agree 100% with rakel, typically the ones that catch problems are ones that are grocery getters or people who do not maintain them as we have many who "run it like you stole it" and never really have problems..

A reprogram was to take care of some of the problems really with fuel injectors from what I heard on some of them

But just the powerstroke was radical in it is timing at the time it came out in 1994 but for emissions, the common rail beats it and that is just why we have the 6.4 now for.

as you do not have electrics trying to open a oil passage to have oil fire the injector anymore.

And to the "programmer". sometimes, the programmers leave tale tale signs if you recal it back to stock .. have not heard this new way of catching them still maybe how many times a file was loaded into the PCM can be one way

Better verify with your dodge dealer they're coming out with that 4500 chassis cab if it isn't already out now. Then you'll have the truck of your dreams.

6.0 powerstroke...Yep junk.
