a new sixth generation Sonata has been launched in August 2004 in Korea. A new platform also was borne out of the project NF for total cost of 290 billion won. The company's 1st all aluminum I4 engine, called Theta, debuted in the new Sonata. Engine choices at launch were a 16 valve 2.0 L and a 2.4 L that produces 166 ps at 5,800 rpm.

The U.S. launch of the all new Sonata kicked off with the historical opening of the 1st U.S. assembly plant for the Korea established Hyundai Motor Company in May 2005. The plant is in Montgomery, Alabama. The Canadian sport variant came with an optional 3.3 L Lambda V6 engine with 247 HP and 238 lb/ft of torque. Hyundai claims the car will launch to 62 mph 100 km/h in 6.7 sec, and have a top speed of 147 mph

The new Sonata is two in 50.8 mm longer and taller and one in 25.4 mm wider than the last generation. The US EPA now classifies the Sonata as a "large car". it's priced at US$18,500. A V6 Sonata is priced at US$23,500.

The Sonata got the Good Design Award in passenger car group from the JIDPO Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization .

The Sonata has been named "Best New Family Car under $35,000 " in the 2006 Canadian Car of the Year awards.

Well, I have an Elantra. 2004. Gets about 30mpg city.

I think it's a great car for the money.

I could think the same could aply to the Sonata. I could bought one if I may have afforded it. I like the new ones, the remind me of a jaguar on the front end.

Ever notice how car dealers go on and on about a Hyundai about it being a throw away. I have a 2004 elentra love it. great warranty most of the others can not match it. Price is right. get pretty good mileage. 24 25 in city 34 37 hi way. Maintenance cost is low. Looks decent. has lots of room the Sonata wow lots of room. Standard equipment more the the rest.

I have two cars, a 05 hyundai sonata with 14000 miles, and a 87 honda accord with 276000 miles. My sonata has had many problems, about a month ago I has been headed to work in the sonata, and the electrical system failed on the freeway, everthing as well as the engine shut off, I coasted to the side of the road, I couldn't get out because you must press the unlock button, I was stuck in my car for four hours and was late to work, then I got fired. I took the car into the dealer and they said it was good, as I pulled out of the parking spot at the hyundai dealership, the car stayed in reverse making this grinding sound, I put the shifter in park and the electrical system failed locking me in the car again, the dealership had to open the doors manually causing damage, that proved to the dealership that there was a problem, but the dealership won't cover it because my last oil change was at a differant hyundai dealer while I was on vacation,so I payed for it myself taking out a second loan for my car, some weeks afterward my sister took my car to walmart, while on the freeway the power steering locked up, she rear ended a ford in front of her at 75 mph and the airbags didn't deploy, I'm filing a recall on my so not a good car, and thank goodness she weared her seat belt, and wasnt in a e launch ra through the windsheild. I'm so pissed. but my 1987 honda accord hasnt had a single problem and it has 276000 miles on it, I'm to get rid of my hyundai and purchasing a new accord, take my advice, purchasing a generic cheap peice of crap like a hyundai and a kia isn't worth it, pay for the leader like honda and not the coppier, have you checked out the looks of the new sonata and accord, they're same, and that disgusts me that generic businesses think that they can come close to competing with honda and toyota.
