APex seals is what seals the combustion on the rotors. They wear out and because extreme oil burning and driveability issues. usually costly to do as the engine needs to be disassembled.

Wow this is tough to explain without a picture. but if you know engines, they're comparable to piston rings. Does your car run? does it turn over? If then take out your spark plugs and pour into the top plug holes ATF just regular trans liquid and turn it over and over and over. be sure your battery is charged. Do this for about three minutes in 30 second intervals.
After doing this, put about one half oz of gasoline in the holes you poured you ATF in and put you plugs back in. attempt and fire you engine.
There will be a bunch of smoke, but it'll go away..If your car runs now. good. if it runs better, then great.
If not, send me a message and I can give you more advice.

The apex seals & springs are at the info of the triangular shaped rotors. They function like a piston ring to preserve the engine compression as they 'walk' around the crankshaft. The apex seals are easy to replace although costly, because you most likely have to replace the end seal which seals the apex spring seat place. usually this seat needs to be machined & oversized seals installed. six x two rotors The engine will must be "totally' disassembled and a new sideseals & 'O'Ring kit used upon rebuilding.

To learn how a rotating engine works go to:
auto.howstuffworks.com/rotary engine.htmauto.howstuffworks.com/rotary engine.htm">auto.howstuffworks.com/rotary eng.
As clarified by the above posters, the apex seals are at the points of the triangular rotor and do the same sealing job as piston rings. Replacing them is just an engine rebuild job, same as replacing piston rings.
