Are 1986 Dodge Aries hard to maintain?

Postby nzeeman » Tue Nov 03, 2009 1:10 am

I just bought a 1986 Dodge Aries and I wondered if they're hard to preserve when it comes to repairs?

The car will be so easy and cheap to preserve its crazy. One part that keeps me into turbododges.

It may be hard to find body parts. But you're pretty much covered on the mechanical side. I have still to need a part that I can',t get from the parts store or dealer.

Chrysler made millions of these types of cars. almost every fwd chrsyler/dodge/plymouth car of the 80s and early 90s shares all their parts. The afterward years being more of an upgrade. there's so much updating you may be able to do, it isn',t humorous. From suspension to motor to interior.

Only thing to really watch out for is the electrical. There were a lot of changes every not many years.

For example. My 91 Shadow uses the bigger brakes from a 93 daytona. Everything was a direct screw on. I only had to bend new hardlines for the calipers.

yes one that old is going to be hard to preserve, keep in mind the era of this car and the fact that dodge parts for that car are hard to come by these days,if you ever wreck it you wont find body parts for it,and the engine will be giving problems this I can ensure you, good luck.

Had an 85 2.2 engine great car put on over 500,000 miles on original transmission..automatic, two sets of struts, three sets of brake rotors on the front. Replaced original engine with a used one at 210,000 miles and drove it till it fell victim to rust at about 507,000. Just service it well. Only complaint I had was the connector pipe between exhaust pipe and muffler seemed to burn out frequently.
