Any car is as safe as the driver. If you drive carelessly and wrecklessly then no car is safe. but if you drive carefully and cautiously then yes it's safe. Its not a car, its a truck, its somewhat topheavy so taking sharp corners at 55 MPH could strongly be deterred.

I rented one some years ago and I loved driving it. The V6 has lots of power and the 4WD gives the car the capability to go places that you can not take a 2WD car. but they aren't built for serious offroad use.

It looks like the biggest problems that people have with Jeeps overall are electrical related. I.E. electric windows or locks not working etc. Other than that with correct care and maintenance they're quite dependable. Great in the snow too.

i am a mechanic and have been for over 25 years. we have a fleet of different kinds of cars and trucks. you may want to check on the brake problem with this jeep. they have a bad clunk and grind in the front rotors and jeep says it not a problem. me I do not think it is normal. hope this helps

It could rely on how you operate them. I don't do SUVs. I still don't understand people who dig them. I like my car agile and economic. Get something with a lower center of gravity and a four cylinder. you may be able to get a Liberty with a 4, but it'll be a slug. don't go for 4WD either unless you plan to stick to the maintenance and don't mind higher premiums.

Get a car and get off the AMC Eagle bandwagon. SUVs are nothing but raised station wagons. purchase a hybrid and enjoy having more money instead of stuffing it in the tank.

Nothing is safe about a jeep. Look at it. No protection on the sides. Easy to break into. Not a good choice for a lady. And they roll easy.

You could have to do something stupid to roll a Liberty. it's as safe as any small SUV. I like the Liberty CRD diesel .

my mother in law has one and has had it since hmmm 2002 2003. she's had it in the shop twice recently for AC and it is had one recall on it so far. One thing you may want to do is research the car that your interested in. I did that with the Jeep I'm to get. Look at buyer reviews. I did that. I went as far as looking at recalls and joining a forum. Test drive one. As for safe like some have said it is the way you drive. Definately do your research, then choose. if you choose this is what you want you'll go onto the lot and have the knowledge of the car and ask questions about it. It does help.

I drive an 03 Jeep liberty. MPG tends to run mid twenties on highway and low 20s in the city. I love it, I have not had any issues with it at all and have taken it on some number of long road trips across the country to and from college. it is really easy to drive, it has the maneuverability of a car but the height of a van or truck which is good for someone who's shorter like me but also room for bigger drivers like my dad and brothers. You do feel the road more than in a car but for me I wanted something that drove a bit rougher. As far as the sound thing another poster mentioned, the Liberty has a bigger engine than it needs, they took the Liberty engine and started putting it into the great Cherokees because the Liberties are overpowered. I do not notice the sound, but I generally have the radio on or music playing.

As far as safety goes I have been in a wreck with mine and came out with no injuries and it certainly did not roll. Check buyer guide, I know some of the years have really good safety ratings in their class. The Liberties are hard to roll, you must really be trying to get one to flip. it is this big myth people have about jeeps and rolling, really its just the earlier wranglers and cherokees from the 80s and early 90s.
The backseat does not have A/C vents if your wanting to have lots of passengers in their, just a warning, but if you aim the front two vents towards the back it stays cool. The folding seats do make great storage.

Just take it for a long test drive and see how you like it. On a side note, at least where I live, it is seen as a chick car. But I also live in South central texas where boys drive trucks and girls drive small SUVs. I have four five other friends who have one and they have not had any problems with theirs either. Also check buyer guide reports from that year of car, I think the 02 and 03 liberties were suggested from their class for safety ranking and handling.

i have a 2003 Jeep liberty . I totally love it. .. the gas mileage may be a lil better than what it's . but its not terribly terribly bad .. they do seem to roll easy but .. I hit a patch of ice with mine and I thought for sure it goed to roll over .. but thank god it did not .. I had bad tires on .. on windy days .. you tend to feel the wind blow you around a lil bit .. but . its not really as bad as what people think . I love it. .. and when I'm done with college I plan on purchasing a brand new jeep liberty. .. have you seen them? BEAUTIFUL. .. jeep.com to check the brand new ones out ..
