Audi A4 problems? |
|
Is it true that the A4 has lots of maintenance problems? No more brand new cars for me . the next one I am to get will be two years young or less, but the A4 is one I am considering and I have heard that there are maintenance issues with the clutch and something else. Any Audi holders, comment. Thanks.

Audi isn't Toyota or Honda. that is apples and oranges.
I owned VW's and Audis all my life, over ten different vehicles. VW's are about the same cost to preserve as the rice grinders. Audi on the other hand is a performance car. If you can not handle a $1,700 bill to replace rear pads and rotors 'cause you think you're Jackie Stewart, then you're in water too deep for you.
I own a 2001 A6 4.2, had it since 2002. I have paid over $30,000 in maintenance over the past five years, some preventative, some because of failures o2 sensor, exhaust system, etc I don't blink an eye because that's what it costs to have the opportunity to drive such a machine. If you can not handle that, don't annoy.
Do Porche holders complain when an oil change cost $300? I don't think so.
Stick with the Japanese, it sounds more your speed.

I have a 2002 A4 1.8t tiptronic auto with 65k miles and have never had any problems other than cosmetic things. Audi has this soft black covering on all of the interior buttons like the radio, windows, and light controls that chips off and scratches easily. Audi replaced ALL of my buttons stating it was a defect and they should not do that.but some weeks after to get replaced, I noticed the buttons used more usually started to exhibit the same problem. But as far as mechanical/engine issues.I have not experienced any, runs like a dream.
As I'm sure you already know, owning and maintaining an Audi isn't cheap. Something simple most do not think about.having to use premium gas averages about $0.30 more per gallon than regular . I really bought mine back in 2004 directly from an Audi dealership when it had 17k miles for approx $20k. It came with Audi's certified pre owned warranty that I have been impressed with.
There are different problems that are related with any brand of car out there, so a warranty better, certified pre owned vehicles is important when buying a used car. in spite of the bad rap Audi received for expensive maintenance.they still have one important thing going for them.SAFETY.. I refuse to drive any other car after being in an accident in my Audi. A Cadillac ran their red light and perfectly focused their hood in the passenger front door of my car going about 35 mph. This Cadillac was one of those 80's hoopties weighing nearly twice as much as the A4. I had two kids in the back seat 18 mo & two 1/2 and we all three walked away with a bruise or two. The car should have been totalled, but $40,000 afterward in repairs the insurance company agrees their adjuster made an error. But, in spite of all of the damage.the car held up very well and still runs perfectly.
My point is.if safety if a factor you're considering before buying your next car.Audi won't fail on that, and that to me is more important than the extra not many bucks it costs for an oil change.
