Axle set up, do I dare?

I have to regear my ten screw. I am mechanically inclined, and will have a book soon. I have never done this job before, is it something I should try?

you'll have to purchase or rent a dial gauge and some other tools to do it and everything must be perfect or your rearend will howl and more than probably go out on you shortly time, I bought all the parts to rebuild mine and a new gear set and I had an old retired mechanic that just works on the side do mine and he only charged me $150 to do it, well worth it by the time you figure out having to purchase or rent the tools, then doing it yourself and most likely never using the tools again.
