For the money the b18C1 is good. you may be able to find these for around $1,500 while the B18C5 will run at least $4,000. With the money that you save $2,500 you may be able to pretty much build the engine. you may be able to purchase a complete rotating assembley from Eagle that bumps the displacement up to two liters for $1,495, this will include your crank, pistons, rods, and rings. Then a good build of the head which I could propose using all Skunk2 parts, as well as Cams $500, cam gears $200, Valves $180, valvesprings $150, and retainers $120. that all together is right at $2,600. Of course you'll need stuff like gaskets, and major bearings, machine work,ETC, BUT that will be about another $1,000. After putting all of this in your engine you may be able to expect an output of about 250 275 HP naturally aspirated. So considering the GSR motor puts down about 152 HP at the front wheels in stock form you'll be gaining 100+ HP.

I have an LS motor with headers full cat exhaust cams and shafts. Ive found since it has a higher dispacement I get more answer out of it. With the LS motor if you may be able to find a V tec head youll have one of the fastest motors out there. Im used to driving rearwheel cars so owning this car is completly different from that. Ill be upgrading the throttle body soon also as adding a fuel rail etc.
Personally im with you on naturally asperated cars i love/hate turbos. Granted youll get instant respose from it but youll be spending time tuning it once a month if you drive it gentle

In nearly all cases the Type R motor isn't worth the extra money. $1,500 for GSR motor and $4,000 for Typr R. For $2,500, you may be able to get better internals and cams for the GSR.
Both engines have alike torque and the higher hp of the Type R cant be utilized unless you're racing on race tracks only. As a daily driver, you'll very rarely notice the extra hp that comes in at 8,000 rpm.

NA and header intake exhaust wont due much, the Type R had the best following head in all the B serious land alongs with B16 and B16B different cams etc. You want to go NA look into B20 bottom end with a lightly port B16A2/3 head, cams, ITBS. 12:1 compersiion should be make 240 260WHP. Check B20vtec.com
