It could not be suggested on a 316i
Better go for a 325i
Most turbo fed engines use sodium exhaust valves and are engineered to take the increase.

Depends on the 316. Is it a 1800 carberated? Or a 1600 injected? They made both and called them 316s. But just like above me said..not really a smart idea on that car either way. Best thing for more power is a motor exchange. There have been all kinds of conversions done on the compact. I have seen a V8 in one. A 325i motor could be least costly, and an M3 motor could be my personal choice.
