Bridgestone Potenza RS92 or Goodyear Assurance Tripletread?

Postby sunhunchan » Fri Sep 28, 2007 10:50 pm

I have a 2004 Subaru Outback and I am trying to choose what tires to get. The Bridgestones are stock, but buyer Reports gave the Goodyears their highest ranking. but, the test was from November 2005. The Bridgestones that are on there now are pretty deafening on the highway, so I do not want a tire that is going to be any louder. as well, I live in Colorado so I do a just amount of snow/ice driving in the winter, although not enough to justify studded tires for the winter. Any opinions could be much appreciated, or ideas for different tires.
Thanks.

Go to Tire Rack at tirerack.com and use their tire selector for help. you may be able to put in your make and model and driving style and they'll create suggestions. With their survey and test results, it's hard to imagine a more complete resource.

For instance, see: tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Assurance+TripleTredtirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Assurance+TripleTred">tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?.

Click on the tabs near the top for SURVEY, REVIEWS and TESTS and see.

Personally, I went with the Yokohama AVID V4S when I recently bought new tires and I have been happy with them. The are a great road tire and did quite well in the different snow and weather conditions this past year.

Kumho Ecsta 712 is a great inexpensive tire. It lasts a long time, is pretty calm and has a low price.

Bridgestone is just Firestone with a different tag.

Having been burned twice by shoddy Firestone tires, I could recommend anything else over them.

Also, I have an Outback. don't know about the 2004, but the 2002 was just a front wheel drive car and when the front started slipping, power was sent to the rear. If the front end with all the engine weight starts slipping, sending power to the light rear end really doesn't help all that much.

This is the 1st and last Subaru I'm every going to purchase as when we had a big snowfall two years ago, I had to use my ML320 or Ford F250 both real four wheel drive vehicles to pull it out when it got stuck.

I think with the Subaru's "all wheel drive" is more a gimmick than something you may be able to hang your hat on. I traded in a Ford Escort wagon for it. Should have kept the Ford.
