Been hearing all negative type media on how unreliable BMW vehicles are. Are there any real BMW holders here that could really give me info on dependability history? as an example give me dependable history on the 2005 BMW 525i model if you could . I know they're costly, but one day I'd like to own one for myself but rather save the trouble if they aren't dependable.

Also are they costly to preserve, parts. How much is a regular oil, filter change run? Insurance cost all the info that could help me out. Thanks in advance.

The reason why I like these cars is simply because I had a friend come down from Arizona and he had a BMW five Series model which was simply an great car. The ride is so smooth, beautiful interior, great sound system.

BMW is great, durable and dependable car.
if any newspaper says that's a unreliable car, then they're asking for trouble unless they can prove that the car is bad.
Any defects throughout the warranty period is taken care by the dealers.
.But bear in mind that BMW cars must be properly and on a regular basis maintained.Parts are little costly but the durability is far beyond other cheap makes.
if you don't go to to minor repairs, problems will be there in the long run.
I own two of the BMWs.
520i E28 1984 mannual still the engine not been overhauled and tip top. no complaints except the rubber bushings changed.
528i E28 1986 auto transmission. still in tip top condition
so far I have spent USD4000 6000 on both cars.Thats for the rubber bushings, shocks, brakes and tyres and servicing.
For your info my shock absorbers worked 14 years in my car.

My son owns 525i 2005 model and there's no complaints todate.
BMW cars are luxury and fast cars, remember that.
You are purchasing one of the best cars in the world.
Those who can not pay for will give you negative thoughts about BMW cars.

I will be happy if you may be able to pay for a BMW soon.
wish you the best.

Most people hear from a friend of a friend of a friend that they're unreliable . Now don't get me wrong it'll cost more to run than some cars, however the key is preventive maintanence and it'll never leave you stranded .

I think that all German cars went through a spell in the 90s being unreliable. VW, BMW, Audi and Mercedes once were called bullet evidence cars. You could purchase one and run it for 200K miles, back when other businesses were barely managing 100K. But BMW have surely bounced back. If you look at buyer Reports, you will see that over the past five years the dependability increased steadily year on year. So I really do not think it's an issue.

Personally, I think that the 328i could be more fun than the 525i. The latter will be slower and less fun than a three series. You could also most likely pay for a newer one. Do you really need that extra space?

I've owned lots of cars in my time, but I can honestly say no car has ever been as fun to drive or as nice to drive as a BMW. I was a total die hard Japanese car person, but now I'm totally transformed. I can not see myself not purchasing another BMW next time around.

If you purchase a new one, the maintenance is totally free for the 1st 50,000 miles. That saves you a great on most of the competition.

If you follow the maintenance schedule, you may want to be good. I suspect that Japanese will still be more dependable in the lasting, but then I never keep a car once the warranty expires anyway. But expect it to be far more dependable than common cars like Ford or GM. most likely more dependable than any other German car too.

I have three BMWs in my driveway all of them are old models. I have driven and tested the new model BMW, but finished that they aren't too dependable.

The most dependable cars BMW ever made I believe is five series E34. I could think that caused by the use of the life liquid, most of these newer BMW won't going to last over 200K. if engine could last, the ZF transmission and the differential could be trashed before 200K.

I owned one of every generation five series excluding the 2006+. Had an 1984 533i E28 great car. Drove it 227000 miles, then rebuilt the motor and autocrossed it for another 80000. Had a 1989 525i. E34 Also a great car. 235000 miles when I got rear ended. Drove a 2001 525i for eight months.loved it. No problems.except a silly issue with a squeak in the steering wheel.drove me crazy. But great cars. Now I have really gone back to the E34 body with a 92 525i. My personal fav. five series. All of these cars are dependable. BMW is, if I'm not mistaken, the most realiable GERMAN car out there. Its a little behind Honda, Toyota and such, but Hondas and Toyotas are crappy and simple as far as electronics and motors go. BMW is far more advance in technology, and waaaaaay sexier. fix costs are not any worse than any Honda. really our local dealer in Portland Oregon is cheaper by the hour than the Honda dealership is. Parts are not awful unless its one of those random "order from Germany" parts. purchase a 5. One warning..be prepared to never want to drive any car other than BMW for the rest of you life. they're addictive.

They are dependable. I own an old 540i and I have never had a problem with it. They may be costly to preserve based on what model you get. The new 5's use lots of oil.

BMW is a dependable car. Ist not hard to preserve, there are a lot of info about the maintenance and parts on the internet. pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/tech_main.htmpelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/tech_main.htm">pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarti. I maintain my old three series by myself, except for changing oil I favor to go to the dealer though its a bit costly. The parts aren't that costly, the labor costs are.
BMW are addicitive becose they so much fun to drive. I think you just started to get addicted after riding your friends BMW.
