Can I exchange a 3.0 L engine with a 3.4 L or 4.0 on a 1995 4runner?
that may sound a little crazy but I came up with the idea because I just totaleed my 1999 4runner and I love the motor that it had it was just so smooth and strong and torguey that I'd like to put it in a 1995 4runner. I really want to do it if it's possible.

Check off road.com. It was done with pretty easy success. You have to keep 3vz intake, motor mounts, distributor, oil pan, oil sump, and fan. The engines are from the same family and will screw up good. There are some differences in the 3.4 through the years, Dist?. Do some research, but yes, it may be done, and yes, it's worth it. Toyota should be ashamed of the 3VZ E.

Too costly. Put a turbo on the 95 and you will get way more bang for the buck. Yes you may be able to do it although. Lots of changes.

Just my opinion, but that 3.0 L is just WAY too hard to work on in comparison to the 3.4. If you may be able to purchase back the totaled 99, that could be the way to go b/c you have everything you need. Put both trans and engine in, wiring harness and computer, and whatever else it could need, which will include evap system, fuel lines.... LOT of work. most likely better to sell the 95 and purchase a newer one. I LOVE my 97 3.4 4Runner.
