Can I fix or replace back wiper in my Outback? |
|
O the joys of a used car. Now it is the back wiper. I have a '99 Outback Legacy whose back wiper just conked out today. I was able to manually move it back to the lowered position. No smell of burnt wires. Is there anything I can do myself? Thanks for ideas.

Well check the fuses 1st.but chances are its the motor. If you remove rear gate panel and check for power with a test light with switch on,I believe it's a four or six wire connector, clear or white in color.
most likely cheapest to get at salvage yard, but used parts are not going to last as long as new.Price them around the dealer and salvage yard and may not be too far separately in price.

The most likly because is the wiper motor shaft has worked on some corrosion and can not turn. you may be able to use up 200 bucks for a new motor from subaru, or you may be able to have someone mechanically inclined remove the motor, take the screws off the backing plate, tap the shaft to take off it, clean the rust out and rebuild it. Much cheaper than just purchasing a new one.
