Can I still use this oil?

Postby italy34bigw » Sun Aug 26, 2007 7:10 am

I bought engine oil for my 1998 ford taurus. I was after 10w 40 and accidentally bought 10w 40 engine oil exactly for four wheel drives. oops, I can not bring it back to the shop, as I have already opened it. Can I use the oil in my car although it isn't a four wheel drive or will this because problems? Thanks

Frankly I have never heard of engine oil exactly for four wheel drive cars. It may be that operating in 4WD creates more load on the engine so this oil in some way performs better. You could contact the maker of the oil and ask. there's typically an number for product info on the rear label in small print.

Personally I use mobil one synthetic. The synthetic oils do not solidify in cold weather as much regular oils.

The key thing is engine oil, if the oil you incidentally bought is engine oil grade 10W 40, then you have exactly the same thing that you require. Four wheel drive only mentions the transmission capability of the car, it has nothing to do with the engine.
Go ahead and use the oil
