Car Radiator possible problem.? |
|
I drive a 1990 pontiac sunbird with AC and have had a serious overheating problem, after 15 20 minutes the car is reaching around 120 degrees temp? I removed the thermostat that pop's in under the radiator cap to help keep it cool, and hotwired the fan direct to run all the time when the car's running, instead of it kicking on at some temp. This car used to normaly run below 180 when I 1st got it last year used from a mechanic self seller.now I can not get it back down to 180, it is alway's 190 220 temp after not many minutes running. I have come to believe it may be the AC Radiator I never used before in front of the Coolant Radiator, I am thinking of just removing the AC radiator all together so the engine radiator will get direct air, and the fan will suck air through it more efficiantly, could anybody agree with me on this idea.? it is been hot up here in RI for the past not many weeks around 82 90's and this is causing a big problem.water pump is working?

attempt taking an air hose and blowing it out real good before you remove it,that can because it, but with the fan running all the time it should cool down some,id take an air hose or a water hose and clean both radiators on it and see if that helped it,there's no reason it should run hot with the fan running all the time on it,if you clean it and it do not help it them you may be able to remove it,but if the air works on it id leave the radiator on it,it will protect the major radiator in case something hits it,good luck on it.

its is possible the a/c radiator is stopping air flow also there could be muck in the radiator slowing the flow, the older the coolant the less efficient it's be sure you have the right pressure cap, if possible check the tempature gauge you may be able to do this by to get a gauge you know works sit the sensor in the radiator let engine run checking the gauge as the motor heats up at least ten 15 minutes

In the 80's and early 90's cars had lots of sensors. These can because lots of problems by sending corrupt information to the ECM. Check your sensors. You have a thermostat in housing at the motor end of your top radiator hose. Two bolts.easy.be sure to reseale.

Sounds to me you may have a blockage somwhere.Best thing to attempt is flushing it.Go to a parts store and pick up a radiator flusher. You will need an air compressor with a tyre inflater connected to it and your garden hose.Disconect the bottom and top radiator hoses and take the radiator cap off. What it does is blows the water through the system and forces out any blockages,Hopefully..Also while your at it by a new radiator cap and some long life coolent.also be sure the fan is running the right way.

how about attempt changing the real thermostat over the motor where the top radiator hose goes in the engine and see if that does not fix your problem and blowing or washing out your radiator and A/C condenser the A/C radiator I think is what you called it , and leave the condenser on the car, attempt a water hose and if you may be able to see water going through then it isn't blocked, and purchase the way I have never seen any car of any make with a thermostat under the radiator cap so my guess is you just broke your radiator cap go purchase a new one
