Check engine light on and trouble starting 91 subaru legacy? |
|
Hi, today when I went to start my car, the check engine light was on, and the car was kind of hesitating as to if it wanted to start. like going back and forth between spinning the belts at full speed, then kind of slowing down kind of sounding like it is weak, could be the best that I could describe it. Any input on what this may be, much appreciated.

The check engine light is related to the emissions control system in the car. Does the light come on just when you're starting up the car? it's supposed to come on then and go out afterward.
I could start by having the battery checked to be sure it's holding a good charge before presuming the check engine light is related to this starting issue.

I have had that problem before check your vacuum holes and if your fuel injected get the cleaner and treat you are gasoline.
When you stop at a stop sign or redlight does it like get weak like wanting to shut off. If so that the vacuum holes that gos behind the engine

need to use an OBD one tester on the car to get the error code.
you can be able to purchase a code reader or borrow one at autozone.

first charge the battery if you don't have a battery charger twelve volt, go to sears vehicle center . they'll test and charge your battery for you free.If you have to replace the battery and can pay for it the sears "silver" is one of the best batterys I ever owned. If your battery checks out you'll have to have a diagnostic computer check done and it'll tell you why the light is on, lots of times it's something simple.. I am not sure if Sears does that test or not.

Don't know about Legacys but some of the other subarus I have had act like this when there's a flawed connection on the coolent temperature sensor. The connector and wires on the sensor get corroded and the computer can not tell how warm the engine is so it does not know how much fuel to put in.
