what are the major differences in class a b c and d amps. I generally see them portrayed but don't see a difference with the models like on bestbuy.com

Class A amps are said to have the best sound quality, but they produce lots of heat at low levels.

Class B amps do not get a hot, but are said to not sound as good.

Class A/B amps are the common amps, they switch between class A circuitry at low volume levels, to class B for higher volume levels.

Never heard of class C

Class D amps are the most economical, and are rarely used to reproduce anything but bass. Class D is the common for good Subwoofer amps.

I will attempt to answer you without going too much in detail about each amp.. if you need a amp for your bass you could want a class D amp. they're more economical than the other class amps but are a little less clean, but that does not matter since it'll be used on bass.. if you want a highs amp its better to go with a class AB amp.. they're much cleaner power, not as economical but majority of people use small amps for highs and bigger amps for bass.. the better efficiency of the class D amp will assist to not draw too much current from your car.. If you have to know more, hit me up and I'll go more into dept with you.. I'll also send you some web sites that may help you if you want to know why one is more economical than the other..Now I'll let you know that I like Rockford amps because they're class BD, which is a cleaner class D amp.. class B and class D.. Class B which makes it a clean amp and class D which makes it an economical amp..
