The last answerers are correct but I wanted to add that when working with some plastics it is a smart idea to use a plastic primer. it is a bit acidic so you will want to do it with good ventilation and away from the kiddies. This preps the plastic to bond with the paint a little better. In fact the Wal mart variant I think is called Bond Aid or something alike and comes in a usually gold, white, and black can with a cool car on the label.
As far as how to spray paint it . a couple rules of thumb .. better to spray some number of light coats with lots of dry time in between then to attempt and get done in one or two sprays and end up with runs and streaks. Another tip is to warm some water on the stove in a pot not quite boiling, take the pot off the stove and place the paint cans into the water for some minutes after having shaken them completely you may want to hear the little BB inside rattling around for at least a minute . The warmer the cans the higher the pressure in the can and the higher the pressure in the can the finer/smoother the spray will come out.
Warning: leaving the cans in water that's too hot or for too long may because them to burst causing injury..
That being said I spray paint everything under the sun and this is the technique I use.
