No. Subaru invested much money in their R&D, and I would not imagine why could they put Porsche engine into their car. The Boxer engine has been utilized as a means of lowering the center of gravity of the car.

Boxer is a style of engine, not a make.

No just the term Boxer Engine. that's a horizonally opposed four or six cyl or more cyls. engine with over head cams. Ferrarri twelve cyl.365 boxer or 512 twelve cyl bigger motor boxer and Porsche Boxer,911, 996 and more, Subaru WRX and six cyl Tribeca all use this design. Either air or liquid cooled.

The Subaru make and Porsche make both make the "H" design or horizontally opposed engine. This lets for a transaxle to mounted on the back of the engine to make the engine to transmission percentage more efficient. This makes the move from the engine to the differential more powerful to the rear wheels or all wheels. that's why you see Porcshe's blow you away on the freeway at lightning speeds. The light weight and the powerful engine and transmission makes this car fast. as well, the "H" design is more efficient than the "I" design engines because instead of the pistons and rods going upwards, the "H" design engine is laying flat on the side. Making it work a lot less and put a lot less stress on you are pistons and rods.

The original VW Beetle, used a boxer engine too, and for the answer, no Porsche doesn't make the Subaru engine.

When I bought my Subaru the sales man said it had a Porsche engine. He's lying of course, it has a boxer engine design, but that is like saying a car has a V8. It just describes the layout of the pistons. I think Subaru is encouraging their sales people to call it a Porsche boxer engine knowing ignorant people will confuse it with Porsche Boxster.
