what are the signs that it needs a new fanbelt ???? it sometimes slips making screeching noises, but frequently ' misses ' as I change gear, particularly at connections thanks.

THE SCREECHING NOISES,indicate belt substitute.YOUR TROUBLE AT connections IS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR FANBELT.Some small engines need extra revs when turning the power steering,due to the lack of low engine torque.At connections and turns increase engine revs somewhat to deal with the extra power required to drive the steering pump also as the alternater,oil pump,water pump,fan and transmission.

Look on the inside for shininess. If it is squealing it most likely does need changing

first thing 1st, check the tension of the belt if loose then adjusted . if not then check the v belt for cracks or perished, if it's then replace as require

if it seems dry and cracked on the inner part it needs changing? it sounds like it needs adjusting... that is why they slip.. but fitting a new one wont brake a sweat on yor wallet .. the missing bit sounds electrical ??? nothing to do with fan belt. a good engine service should cure yor probs <span title="....................">...........
