Fluctuating thermostat on my 2000 Jeep Cherokee?
Most of the time when I drive the thermostat on the dash reads 210 which is about normal for the jeep but everyone in a while it'll shoot down and peg itself as far left as possible. on occasion turning off the jeep and restarting helps.sometimes not. I thought possibly a sticky thermostat but the jeep does not seem to change temperature. I am assume its electrical but I don't know where to start.

I had a jeep Cherokee that had the same problem. we had to replace the thermostat and a couple of hoses too. If I remember right it only cost about $100 or so. We did the work ourselves with the help of a Haynes manual.

try replacing the thermostat 1st.. Jeep parts are made by everyone and their grandmothers. which make for inexpensive parts .. I had a 95 2door 5spd manual box cherokee. I had some issues with my thermo. replaced it and never a problem again.

Sounds like the thermostat is messed up.
Swapping that out is cheap and easy to do in some minutes in the driveway.
most likely less than 10.00 for the thermostat and gasket.

Possibly a thermostat but also check your electric cooling fan for operation. May need a coolant flush caused by debris build up not allowing the coolant to flow properly. Good luck.

check the back of the gauge for corrosion or if it's loose. on occasion the wires running from the therestat housing get brittle from years of wear. it should be abled to be replaced. but I could check the gauge 1st.
