I have read that you can not tell for sure if any liquid in your car is good just by looking at it, particularly the coolant. when it seems the same color as it did when it was new, the additives may be depleted and by the time you see a rusty color, the damage to your engine has already been done. So in spite of some coolant having five year substitute particular like GM's Dexcool, some experts tell change it every two years. If you change it soon enough, you most likely only need a simple drain and refill with enough 50/50 mix to refill the radiator.
