it's a 2.0 L four cylinder with a DOHC 16 valve cylinder head that produces 130 hp.

Ford still uses this engine today it's a great power plant.

The sport designation meant that you had 16 inch tires and wheels that are aluminum you have fog lamps.

I could have a pro look at your wiring problem it may save you lots of money..

Don't mess with the wiring unless you know exactly what you're doing. you may be able to mess up lots of electronic controls and sensors really easily if you get something crossed. Sounds like you have to enlist the help of a professional on this little project. It can save you from lots of head aches and possibly a bunch of fried computer controls.

The cylinder number tells you how many spark plugs your engine has. If it's a four cylinder engine, it'll have four spark plugs coming out of the manifold top of the engine . If it's six cylinder, it'll have six spark plugs coming out of the manifold. The sparkplugs connect to the manifold through long black wires that are thick like hoses. I know this sounds dumb, but I do not how much you know about cars. Hope this helps. Good luck. 16 valve sounds like a four cylinder.

Ok, 1st off don't touch your car.

If you can not tell the difference between a 2.0 I4 zetec and a 2.5 V6 Duratec you definately shouldn't be touching wiring.

That being said, simple math will tell you your answer. You can not have an odd agreeing of valves and cylinders. If you had a six cylinders and 16 valves that could leave you with four valves not agreeing to anything. clearly you have a four cylinder with four valves per cylinder.

Other easy ways you may want to have known:
The form of the engine.
Valve placement.
Engine cover says Duratec only a V6 in the US till recently, Contour was a US car, Mondeo was the name elsewhere .

If you know enough to work on the car, you could know enough to not ask this question, its just too easy to pop your hood and know the answer.

Please don't try to work on the wiring yourself. Get help.

showtunes is right on it being a four cylinder 2.0

But as the others said, unless it is to replace spark plug wires, step away from the car. I am a professional and those things may be nightmares with wiring and why most shops ship the cars to me when it has electrical wiring issues in my neck of the woods ... just wire is too small and too tightly filled in there in some cases. that and connectors are more of a asian style connector than american.

So as someone said, unless you're real comfy, those things aren't suggested for the novice DIYer
