Help smoking turbo diesel?

Postby milan » Fri Aug 24, 2007 3:18 am

I have a mitsubishi Pajero 2.8 turbo diesel which is giving off black smoke too much to pass emmisions test I have had a new exhaust fitted and all the injectors have been reconditioned but it hasn,t cured it completely only somewhat reduced the smoke.

Im told that it may just need a good run or am I just been ripped off by the garage?

I agree with JJ.
I'm a Diesel's Engines Mechanic.

Is the TURBO. before change it, replace the air intake filter

check the EGR. in some other shop

it never been the injectors.

Black Smoke before five miles per hour : EGR SYS

Black Smoke generally : TURBO excesive fuel, no air

White Smoke : Burning OIL piston ring or valve guides some time oil from the turbo shaft seal, but that will generally will be un noticiable caused by unburned fuel.

white Bluesish : the engine is burning coolant. smell sweet and penetrant

My husband is a diesel mechanic. Every time one comes in with black smoke he checks out the transmission 1st. I'd recommend taking it to another shop if you are a owner operator.

Get yourself some injector cleaner & run it thru a full tank of gas, then if that does not help have your fuel pressure checked to the injectors. If it were the turbo it could spit out white smoke.

this is kinda simple and you may have had I checked it already but on occasion a bad or dirty air filter will because smoke
the engine gets starved for air and wont combust the fuel completly

hope its that simple give it a attempt
