Hi, I'm considering purchasing between a porsche 944 S2 or a porsche 968.. suggestions?
I know the 968 is afterward generation and 240hp vs 207hp for the S2, but for the looks, a 944 or a 968..?

Both are good cars. The 968 is a newer car not a lot, but still newer, and is going to have some advances that the 944S2 will lack. While the 968 does have more power, it's also heavier and the performance difference between these cars isn't much. The 944S2 is most probably easier to find, meaning you'll probably have more cars to decide from and will be probably to find a good example at a more nice price.
So which one? A Porsche may really be a practical and dependable car it is surely usable. but, one does not purchase a Porsche for the same reasons one looks at a Civic or a Corolla. , find a car you love , then follow through to be sure it is a good car pre buy inspection . And take the time to drive a couple examples of each so you have some reference point as to what they're like. With that done, your question will answer itself.

968. it seems more like a Porsche. At least the front fenders and headlights reminds me of a 993 Carrera.

The 944 s2 is older but I feel its a better looking car the 968 looks to much like the 928s for my liking, unlike Dr Phill says above both cars you ask about are porsche built cars. The 924 was the VW/ Audi built Porsche

I favor the looks of the 968 more modern and cleaner lines.

My passion and job rolvolve around Porsches. The 968 is a more distinctive, and stronger car. I could not purchase a S2 unless it was a 911 S2. My opinion is go with the 968 and from a mechanic standpoint I could go with the 968 also. The 944 is farther from being a true Porsche and the 968 won't be in the shop as much as the 944..There is a reason they don't make them anymore. Go with the 968, looks, stability, and its distinctive. Good luck car shopping.

Every mechanic will tell you the pros and cons for each model but the truth is that whenever you're considering purchasing a used car, particularly a sports car where you don't have a fixation on a specific model year or engine, generally purchase the newest, most technologically up to date variant you may be able to pay for. By to get a newer car you'll can access more mechanics with knowledge and a greater availaibility of parts that will must be repaired. but, that being said, if you're planning to take it to the track, you may want to start with the older car since you will not feel bad when you start to tear it upart and make upgrades, or worse, find yourself replaceing panels after track day. But, but, but, make sure to have it inspected by a Porsche mechanic who knows what to look for or you'll be out of lots of money for unforeseen repairs.
