Check your tire pressures. Add a K&N or some other kind of higher flow intake, or at least be sure your air filter is clean. Maybe a flowmaster exhaust to make it breathe easier, that will make it sound nice too. be sure it's running properly and there is no check engine light. Turn off the air conditioning, slow down some miles per hour when you drive, and take it simple on the gas pedal when you speed up.

If you do all this and still are not happy, trade your truck in for a Honda or something

i have a 97 dodge ram 1500 and when I got it, it was stock except for the lift. I was lucky to ever get ten miles to the gallon. I went out bought a K&N air filter. I used the stock air box since mine isn't constrained . I bought a throttle body spacer for like 50 bucks and that did the most for my truck. then I opened the exquast, put a jet chip in it, and changed the thermostat to a 15 degree lower then it was. I now get 15 in the city and about 19 22 high way. I also use lucas oil and fuel stabilizer every other oil change. attempt some of it. the chip and throttle body spacer is a must. I also boosted the hp more then 60 then it came ouot of the factory. I had it dyno'd at 347. which is good for a 5.9. I also run my ac all day

go to autozone or orileys and ask them for a fuel saver chip I bet they know what you'll be talking about, and get a throttle body spacer and run open headers baby:D

jet stage two performance chip, will give you about 18 in the city depnding on how you drive. also adds performance. On ebay they have cheap colod air intakes, about $50, this helps they come with a k&n filter. Get your tires nitrogen filled, costs about $40. If you do this, all of it still keeps to your warranty if you have one and must pay you back in gas saving inside some tanks of gas. as well, your truck will have anywhere from 50 75 more hp based on which engine you have.

Stop driving it. Seriously, about the only way to increase mileage could be to install a less restrictive exhaust system, and an air filter kit like one from K&N.

I do not know why but Dodge has the goofiest airbox in the business. Get the K&N air filter kit and you will see an improvement in gas mileage and acceleration now.
I'm really surprised that raising the throttle body has such a positive effect, because this could have been so easy for the factory to do. But everything I have seen and read indicates that the improvement is real.
One of the things I have been inquisitive about is that maybe Dodge thought they had a clearance problem and that they decided that raising the throttle body and air cleaner may result in higher temperatures under the hood. But if anything the two trucks I helped change really ran a little cooler.
So,, maybe Dodge just did not do their homework?

all the modding in the world won't rationalize the price you spent on the mods to your increase fuel mileage. you may get two to three MPG more at most. and the man with the 5.9 no way you get up to 22 MPG with that 360. everyone I know with a 360 gets at best 15 HEY and they modded more than your lil truck could imagine. just save your money on the mods and may be time to get a lil four cylinger beater car that gets better mileage.
