How do I get the flywheel cover off a 1.7 dtl astra, engine side,do I have to take the sump off?
Im setting the timing with a setting tool,the astra is a 1996 mk3

The flywheel cover plate on the astra should just slip out once the bolts are removed.The sump doesn't have to come off.If the timing belt is still on its pulleys?You can mark them all at the front end to save you the time and annoy of taking off the flywheel plate.Hope this helps,

the cover that you mean I am guessing is the crank pulley cover,The flywheel is the gear box end of the engine, You don't go anywhere near the sump,All of the covers around doing that cam belt should be accessable from the drivers side of the engine block,Be warned,if you're a novice it may go horribly wrong if you don't have exact clear information and have the correct tools for doing the job
