How hard is it to use the IPD kit to mount a Ford 5.0 Mustan |
|
How hard is it to use the IPD kit to mount a Ford 5.0 Mustang V8 into a Volvo 240 series sedan?
I have read of some cases of people that have done this plus IPD makes all the parts that let for this, plus I asked a Volvo man at a Volvo only garage how they'd do this and he said the only thing you need besides the new engine is to replace the front springs with 240 station wagon spring to accomodate the weight of the bigger heavier engine.
I want to make the penultimate sleeper car and I figure what better car to catch people with their pants down so to speak could be a Volvo 240 sedan, plus I like how they look and drive anyway.

Cool, but I talked about the 240 Sedan, plus I have read about it in some different car mags, plus I may have seen one at a car show I attended. The 240 does seem to have a longish hood but in the event the Ford 5.0 V8 is too big, what about a Cleveland 302 or a Chevy 305 or small block 350, personally I'm cautious of Ford parts because my worst car snafus were generally in the Fords I had. The GM style layout may not match up with the IPD stuff for all I know.

I had a 240, loved that car.
You'll most likely find other holders who have done this at the Brickboard brickboard.combrickboard.com">brickboard.com

I'd be cautious here. These V8 conversions, when done on a Volvo 740 a bigger car than the 240, requires is some sheet metal mods to accommodate the V8. I have included a link for you to reference to see what you are up against. The 240 engine bay is surely more confined than the 740 so just beware that it may not be as simple as the "Volvo guy" said it was. It could be a good setup although. I know it may be done because I have seen one Ford V8 conversion in a '78 Bertone, which is a 262 V6 engine .
