I would not go up to 7K if were you, it could damage your engine in the long run, besides there's no get for you to go up that high on the rpm.

The specification for your 4.2L :'
horse power = 202hp@4350rpm
torque = 260lb ft@3750rpm

so the normal rpm for your daily use is around 4K to 5K

going up to 7K will only make you burn more unneeded fuel. unless you're into drag racing, of speed off road.

i would not want to do it all the time on it,that car most likely has a rev limiter in it that could prevent it from doing this all the time anyway,most cars do these days,but to be safe about I would not make it a habit of going that high on the rpm,s of it,good luck on it.

When the connecting rods come through the block you know you have over reved aka windowing in racing jargon . Really although, your engine has a rev limiter installed that shuts down the fuel supply at a set rpm, but, I wouldnt recommend experimenting with your car use a rental. .

I do not have the specifications for the 4.2 engine, but I doubt it you want to take it to 7K rpm. The max HP and torque will be a lower number. Something like 5800 sounds more reasonable.

chances are the limiter is set at 6. Going to seven on your car could destroy something. Chances are your engine isn't built to take that high of rpm caused by lots of recipricating mass turning way too fast. Looking at the answer above me you get max torque at a little less then 4k. After that volumetric efficiency goes down, which means your engine can not flow that much past that point because of limitations head can not flow well enough or some other restriction . So after four you'll start droping in hp. The best shift point for your car is most likely around 5k.

No I don't recomend taking it out to 7k as 5k s usually where an engine runs out anyway.
