The non turbo variant of the 1.8L engine is an choice in European VWs. it is listed as 125HP.
Volkswagen considers the 1.8T an LPT Light Pressure Turbo . The turbo doesn't put too much strain on the engine, and lets it to get better power than a small four cylinder, while to get better gas mileage than a six cylinder with the same horespower.
That same engine can handle 300hp if you change the turbo, intercooler, chip, and plumbing.

Volkswagen without turbo based on engine type puts out from125 to 140 bhp.
