How much could it cost to get my heating core bypassed?

Postby BryanTbone » Sat Sep 29, 2007 10:29 am

I have a 1996 Subaru Legacy. The heat doesn't work and I'm not worried about it ever working.

The car is leaking coolant into the passenger side of the car. I don't care if the heat/air conditioner work.

All you must do is learn the sixe of the heater hose, may be 5/8 or 3/4, then find a coupler that size and remove the two hoses from the heater core and hook them together so the coolent can circulate. Local parts store will have a water flush kit that you may use for a coupler. Should cost around ten dollars if you do it yourself.

Find the two lines running to firewall, cut them at the firewall put a peice of rigid tubing in the lines that run back to the engine, this will close the loop in the system. clamp with hose clamps and your off.

All the above answers are good. it's really not that hard to replace the heater core either and they aren't that costly. Put your boyfriend to work girl.
