How much should it cost to have an alternator for a 95 Mazda 626 replaced?
I just want to be sure that I am not being robbed by my mechani. he's charging me about $200 for the alternator and another $65 for labor. He says it takes about an hour to fix.

An alternator for the '95 Mazda 2.5L costs between $128 and $208 based on the alternator maker and if the alternator is remanufactured or new. So your mechanic is charging a just price.

I am a certified mechanic and really you could pay up to $600 for an alternator and labor is $65/hr. So you really are to get a great deal. But if you go to an auto parts store and purchase the alternator youself you may save about $30.

If the alternator comes with a lifetime warranty, then it is about right. usually alternators are sold with a one or two year warranty or lifetime. The one or two year warranty parts cost less, but usually last only their warranty period.
I could only recommend using the lifetime warranty alternators.

As long as you're to get the warranty for the part with the repairs, it sounds about right.
