How much will routine tune ups and regular maintenance cost on a 1984 Carrera cost?
I'm looking at a used one with 127,000 miles. I live in the LA area and could also use a good Porsche machanic. How much am I supposed to pay for this car? Help.

Porsche Expert here

now it probaly is an Sc model which means its old, crappy, and is a bad modeled 911 thought this does cost a lot less than a none sc. an mint sc probly20 at the complete most, perfect, 17k good, 14k, good,10k just five 7kany poor 5k and lower but with that miles attempt the best to get 14 k and lower or it stuipd to get it. tune ups on this car is cheap is once a year or two times a year for 300 700, oil is every 20k miles, service every 20k mile spark pugs 20k miles, airfilter, 20k miles, all this is queit inexpensive. oil is like 20 40 dollars, spark plug 20 100dollars, airfilter 40 100 dollars and service is cheap 600 1700dollars.

For access to many knowledgeable p car holders, and many in your area, go to the technical forums at pelicanparts.com

There is no answer to your question. There may be best guesses, but more info is needed on the car. The engine could need a complete rebuild, or may have more maintenance issues than another. Best to have a PPI done previous to any buy.

There are lots of p cars available from other pelican members on the forum also.

ADDITIONAL

For your good, do not listen to anything "germanbeemer" has to say below. He obviously has probably never seen a porsche, let alone touched one. His comments show he's surely no "expert".

The early cars are constantly rising in value and popularity. I have a 69 911 and a 97 993. they're great cars and the early cars particularly, are easy to do your maintenance. Some of the things you will have to do occassionally are plugs $20, oil & filter $20 $50 based on the grade of oil. you will want to change your oil on an early car optimally every 5000 km, or at least once a season, based on how much driving you do. keep in mind they're air cooled, so the oil gets hot and aids in some of the cooling. The dirtier the oil, the less effect it has on the engine in helping balance everything out.

They may be great cars, but know your history. You do not want someone elses problems. But there will generally be things to do on it. But that is part of the delight of ownership.

Seriously, check out pelican parts for access to a great community of porsche holders and knowledge.

Good luck.

Have it checked out BY a Porsche dealership.

Do NOT purchase a Porsche without it 1st being checked out. I did, and it cost me a bundle to get the car right 1983SC .

Contact the POC, and find a good mechanic.

I would not pay more than what the car is worth.
