If the car came with daytime running lights you can not turn them off. They should generally be on when the car is running. it's also illegal for them not to be on if it's factory equipment. This is something that some law enforcement officers are unaware of. In Canada you have to generally have your lights on. How crappy are they huh? Removing the fuse but could disable other needed systems on the car. Best advice is to leave them alone.

you have to find the fuse and hope it does not turn anything else off.

Here's something that works on older Chev trucks. If you have a dome light override button, push it in and out twice. you will hear a chime. The lights should be off.

not sure about the 97 model, but on some you could apply the emergency brake just somewhat and it could disengage the day time running lamps.

on the newer cars if you pull the fuse it'll not run some models you may be able to unplug from under the hood in some states it'll not pass inspection without them
