heres what you may be able to do take it to a dealer and have them hook up the VST it can read how many miles are recorded on ECM and TCM there's a way to order a new odometer with the mialage predetermined to your read out but majority of people tend to just replace the odometer set to zero and they place a tag on the car typically on the drivers door area to let anybody know the real milage. A 94 volvo is a really good car as long as it was in good hands. they're dependable and have strong engines the only thing it's from Sweden so parts are costly and at times out of stock, slao you do have to replace them with the right volvo part if not you'll have it break down prematurely on you, then have to fix it again particularly the breaks and rotors they're sensitive when it comes to after market parts. Good luck..... Oh yeah that one answer was humorous about the SUVs fool didn't know

BUY THE CAR ONLY IF it's CHEAP. A GOOD MECHANIC CAN CHECK THE CAR OUT AND LET YOU NOW WHAT PARTS HAVE BEEN CHANGED IN THE ENGINE AND FRONT END. THE REASON SOME PEOPLE TURN OFF THE SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER IS BECAUSE THEY USE THE car FOR HIGHT MILEAGE AND KNOW it'll NOT BE WORTH ANYTHING WITH HIGH MILEAGE. USE CAUTION AND HAVE A MECHANIC CHECK ANY CAR YOU WANT TO purchase. ITS WORTH THE SMALL FEE he'll CHARGE.

Absolutely not. There are other SUV's that on a regular basis get better fuel economy and more importantly part replacements are considerably less costly. The GMC Yukon and Chevy Tahoe hands down on a regular basis get better fuel economy, have more dependable transmissions and move cases, better brakes, and ride much better. I have spent significant driving time in each car. potential purchasers like yourself should think about all parts of ownership of ownership of off shore today, Ford owns Volvo or partially owned car businesses. The differential in common parts substitute costs are staggering.
For instance: namelessly walk up to the Volvo parts counter and price a starter, alternator brake rotor and brake pads. Do the same thing at your Local GM dealer.

The last choice is yours but my nephews wife did not want a "Cooke cutter" American SUV. They bought a Ford owned Land Rover. strange tire ware, difficulty to get it aligned by the selling dealer and a inflexible poor ride coupled with a "chincy" interior made this admittedly a poor choice.

Depends on what the mileage reads. If it is already a high number, then who cares as long as the car is cheap. If the mileage is unusually low, then I would not purchase the car without evidence of mileage..why do not you run a CARFAX and see what it says?

Get an independent Volvo mechanic to assess the car. Mileage in a Volvo may not be the prime consideration, how well the car has been maintained is what is important. A mechanic will be able to tell.

It depends on the model. If it is a 960, forget it. If it is a 940 then I could have it checked out by a reputable shop that can estimate the mileage for you. Volvos tend to amass lots of miles over their life spans but the red engine models 940 is one will outlast practically anything on the road. Having the car inspected is money well spent. Of course the owner's asking price should be reasonable.
