I am to get awful gas mileage on my 1990 jeep wrangler. About eight ten mpg. What am I supposed to do?

It depends, 1st off check you tire pressure, low tire air pressure can do a lot, also the air filter. it may not look to dirty but depending where you drive your jeep it can get clogged quickly, for us it could be like running breathing out of a straw. Have you ever run fuel injector cleaner in the jeep? You have to, the injectors can get cloged just like a shower head with hard water. Get a tune up, new plugs and wires cap and rotor. Your jeep isn't a gas hog like some people could say and the I6 Jeep engine gets about 20mpg on the highway, that is not bad. The I4 like you have is at least eight points off what it should be. Go to your local tire/lube and tune and use up some cash to learn what is wrong before anything else. it may easly be a bird nest in your air cleaner. Good luck

Trade it in they get infamously poor mileage.

Take it to a good fix shop and get it checked for a bad oxygen sensor or maf sensor.

If the mileage was not this bad when you bought it, attempt giving it a tune up. Check all filters, plugs, and wires.

have you had a tune up lately?? maybe adding B twelve to your gas tank may help in cleaning some things out. I use b twelve at least once a month.it gives me 24 26 hwy miles/21 city..i have a 1990 volvo.. 231,000 miles and still going strong.
what kind of tires do you have.sometimes that effects gas miles..

that is the biggest problem with jeeps. do a complete tune up. the four cylinder in a jeep is over worked so you get poor mileage and the six cylinder is bigger so ofcourse it gets less mpg. my girlfriend had a four cyl jeep and got awful gas mileage when it was new.

do you have a lift with big tires? does it run unusally hot? these can give to bad gas mileage. I get twelve to 14 miles per gallon. I have 3 tires and a 4" lift.

have it checked out, a four cyc will be working harder than a six cyc, but that still could not create that poor of mileage, I know I do considerably better in my wrangler which is a six cyc. I could guess I'm to get someplace between 14 and 22 MPG with no modification done on mine.
