there is a lot of missing information here to gauge how good of a purchase this is. As a generalization, $49k is well above the going rate for a '97 993.. more, tiptronic equipped cars tend to sell for less as there's less demand most purchasers need manual transmissions, and many or most won't think about the tiptronic . All of which tends to make the asking price sound much too high.
However, given the low milage, if the car is in mint condition, it may have such value to the right customer. The right customer being someone looking for a low milage, original mint condition 993 possibly for Concours and simialr show type use. An all original car is such condition could be a prime canidate for someone looking for a Councours prepared car.
However, if you need a car to drive frequently, and run the risk of stone chips and normal wear and tear, price on the side, this is most likely not a good canidate because it has such low miles. Porsches, and especailly those of the air cooled generations, have to be driven. Running them keeps all of their parts properly lubriacted. cars that sit for expanded periods without use frequently wind up having many parts that will have to be replaced once they're subjected to semi regular use as they dried out or worn.
Personally, I could not think about a tiptronic 993, nor could I think about any 993 now that was close to $50k. but, based on what you need, this may be a good purchase. but it may also be a awful one. If this isn't the car you need, you may want to most likely use up some time to choose just what you want out the car you need which will make it much easier to recognize possible canidates when they come along .

Not a good purchase at all. You could find a newer 911 for that money.

You have to give more information. But you may also check:

no man that is way to costly I mean $49,000 I could get a 2001 Porsche 996 911 Carrera S in Good as new Condition completely Loaded Officially Dealer Mentained with Full service history.
but a 911 993 is jus too costly for $30,000, don't purchase it because old Air cooled Sportscars are Prone to break Down this was one of the major reasons why Porsche shifted from Air Cooled to Water Cooled jus to make more dependable for people who purchase them second hand, and this is the truth I asked this Air Cooled to water Cooled Question from the Factory Manager of Porsche in Stuttgart while I was in Germany.
