I have a 1978 Mercury Monarch with a V6 under the hood. I want a V8. What Steps To Take?
Is it as simple as swapping out the engines or will I have to change out the transmission also? Will I have to get any extra items?

1st of all, you do not have a V6, you have an inline I6 most likely a 200 cubic inch, and you may have a C4 transmission if its an auto or a Saginaw three speed manual .
A small block Ford V8 262, 302, 351W will screw on to the C4 tranny. you'll need differnet motor mounts, possibly a different radiator check your upper and lower hose coonection positions, and exhaust.
Its possible you have a C3 auto tranny, in which case you could have to exchange in a C4 and change the front transmission crossmember and driveshaft.

Try and find a 78 T bird or monarch with the 302 V8. Everything you need wil be there. yes you need a different transmission.
