I have a 1992 miata. the clutch just broke and I can not put it into any gears. what may be the problem?
i have a 1992 miata with about 150k miles on it. I drived it for about an hour to visit someone I know. when I got off the freeway, the clutch just went soft and loose and I could not put it into any of the gears. what may be the problem? when I bought the car about a year ago, the owner said the clutch was only about two years old and felt good when I drove it. it juss all of a sudden broke while driving. could it be my clutch or tranny or something else? help. thanks.

I was a Mazda mechanic for 22 years. it's your clutch hydraulic system, clutch master and or slave cylinder. Check your clutch liquid level, like a small brake cylinder reservoir. Should cost about $50 for the clutch slave most probable problem or $100 for the master. Labor about one hour for each. Not a big deal. No have to replace clutch assembly.

Miata never had a clutch cable.

Probably a bad clutch bearing.

sounds like your clutch master cylinder or slave cyliunder went out and or your throw out bearing may have gotten stuck engaged

You need a new clutch.

I'm gonna' say your clutch broke.

The clutch cable should be replaced every year.

Sounds like the cable between the pedal and the clutch release fork has broken if it is cable operated If it is hydraulic then the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder may started leaking and run out of liquid. Both aren't big fixes.

I'm sorry, I think things have gone beyond the point of fix this
is a 14 year old car. Can you pay for payments on a new?
But the really best answer is call these two guys on public radio,
on every Saturday I think, I think its' called Car Talk, I think they're
outa New Jersey they really own a shop there. These guys are
geniuses I have heard them answer just about every question on cars imaginable. they are smart, amnd ABSOLUTELY
hilarious, the show is humorous as hell. they're brothers.

I HAVE A 1999 MIATA AND LAST MONTH I STARTED TO HAVE DIFFICULTY changing GEARS. TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR NEEDS A NEW CLUTCH THAT WILL COST ME ABOUT $900.00 So now I'm just saving money to get it fixed.
