I have a 2005 Acura Tl engine, and exchange into 1997 civic coupe?
Is it remotely possible to put the powerful acura tl engine into a honda civic. what kind of custom work could be obliged.

It is possible, and was done many times. but, there's broad fabbing that needs to be done.

wow. nice.. I bet it could fit, just some big custom work. engine mount, transmission, maybe have to cut some metals. not sure but I heard they where putting v6's in civic. that is a lil crazy. but I could like to see one.

I do not think it could work.too many fitment & engineering issues.
First, I am not sure there is room for it. And beyond the motor itself, you have got to fit in rest of the drivetrain.the transmission, the CV hookup, etc. All the dimensions could be wrong, the width of the wheelbase being one of them.
Also, if by some miracle after spending big $$ reengineering nearly everything under the hood, the car could most assuredly handle lousy. Front wheel drive cars are inherently nose heavy and that contributes to lots of understeer. there is understeer with the much lighter four bangers made for the car. put a drivetrain that is gotta weigh some number of hundred pounds more than the one intended for the Civic will make that car a nightmare to maneuver.
So.J series motors made for mid sized vehicles going into subcomact chassis is a pipe dream.
And that is why all the 'tuners' go with forced unduction, NOX, and every other performance mod available to Honda motors. These latter are really do able, it keeps the car drivable, and you do not have to use up a fortune redesigning the complete car only to find that the project was a bad idea.
Honda engineers their drive trains to the point of the particular chassis. there's some exchangeability inside those chassis.eg., can exchange certain Civic SI parts with Acura RSX, etc.
Just my opinions here, but I belive you will hear/see the same thing from visiting Honda sites like 'Temple of VTEC', and Acurazine', etc.

No. it is ok to exchange an acura integra engine ot TSX engine but not a heavier and bulkier V six engine. it'll be a nightmare attempt to fit that engine into your civic. It could be better to exchange your TL engine for a TSX engine.

3.2 litre engine in an engine bay that has a more room than the 1.7 litre engine it carries? You'd have to move a pretty bit around, but it'll take some time. Considering you are asking if it can really be done, you may want to be asking a professional at a shop if there have been any done before, and if yes, what you'd be looking at spending. Labour could be costly as fitting and custom manufacturing could be extreme, not to talk about parts. Good luck, those J32 engines are pretty powerful.
