I have a 2005 Ford Five Hundred, and the Engine light was on for a while, caused by a failure with the EGR.?
After a couple months of that failing, it's causing my CVT transmission to go into Limp Home Mode when idle. I can reset the Limp Home Mode, by turning the car off and back on. The Ford Mechanic stated that he did not get any error codes for why the Transmission is doing that. After researching it, I believe it must be caused by the EGR, because when the engine is cool, the Transmission does not screw up.but after being on the freeway, right when I get to the 1st stop light, and it idle's under 8000 RPMs .BOOM, Limp Home Mode activates. Bullcrap.btw. anybody know how to "clean" this particular model? Thanks.

After going through the procedure of removing the valve to clean it, you may also just replace it because I have never seen a cleaning last more than some months. To continue to drive with an EGR problem also clogs the catalytic converter, so you're looking at another $500 $700 there also. If it clogs, than there's back pressure on the engine and that will get you a blown head gasket. Another $1800 $2300 there. Why not just get it fixed now.
Remember, the limp home mode is intended to make you take it in before you do extra damage to the emissions system and the engine too.
Don't blame the car. it's just doing what it was intended to do throughout a malfunction.
Is the car out of warranty?? If not, then by driving it you can be voiding any left over warranty.

Your car is still covered under the emissions warranty, so 1st get the error codes fixed by Ford, then see if the transmission problem goes away.

The limp home mode is being handled by the car's computer and it's probably due to EGR valve failure. Replace the EGR valve and you may want to be ok.
