I have a 2006 Audi A4, how can I make the stereo sound better?
I love the car except for the sound system. I had a loaner 2007 some months ago that also had the standard sound system. But it sounded much better than my 06. The dealer told me Audi changed the speakers for 07. I am just looking for some speakers with better clearness without spending a small fortune. possibly changing the four big speakers. Any suggestions?

Hi Audi Nate, Both cars had the same standard stereo Not Bose except that the 07, I believe, did not have a tape player. it is certainly not the settings that made the 07 sound better than the 06. I noticed a significant difference in the sound quality from a cd I had played a pretty bit in my 06. When I played it in the 07 loaner it sounded much better.

I do believe you were lied to by the dealer. I don't know of any changes to the speakers between '06 and '07 in the A4's speakers. they're both B6's with little difference between them. If both had standard speakers, the loaner didn't have Bose Premium Sound, there can only be some differences.
Do your car and the loaner both have the same radio? Symphony II, RNS E Audi Nav Plus, etc. Different head units sound different. Have you adjusted your equalizer settings? Were you listening to the same thing? Over the air radio sounds worse than Sat. radio or a CD.
It is possible to upgrade, but make sure there isn't an explanation for the difference before you use up the money. Bose speakers do sound better.
By the way, the new S8 and R8 both have Bang & Olufsen sound as an choice, which sounds phenomenal.
Hey Michael,
Well, you said that the '07 didn't have a tape deck, that could make it a different unit. That may be the difference in sound quality. Also I know that the head unit is no different on a Bose system, in comparison to a regular sound system. The head unit is just coded to be Bose or Non Bose. The Bose system uses active speakers with fitted amplifiers. You could buy Bose speakers and install them yourself. After installation, you could have to find someone with VAG COM software, or take your car to an Audi dealer to have it coded. The radio needs to be "told" that it's connected to Bose speakers, to get the full Bose experience. Bose sound is tailored to the acoustic coutures of each Audi car. The radio is already setup for Bose, but it needs to be coded. Installing Bose speakers could not be hard nor costly. I could not recommend putting aftermarket non Audi speakers in your car, as they may really sound worse. The blockage of both the speakers and head unit should match for the best quality.
I drive a 2004 Audi S4 with Bose, it sounds great.
