I have a 2006 Jeep liberty. The airconditioner started blowing hot tonite?
I was out driving tonite and the air conditioner just stopped blowing cold. My car is still under warranty but the only problem is their service hours are monday through friday and hours that I'm already at work. It happened to soon to make other arrangements. I'll drop the car off to Jeep on Monday but meanwhile can I purchase a recharge kit and add more freon or r134? I think that is the numbers I have someone that will do it for me, he's a mechanic who is a neighbor of mine, but he just told me to get the stuff. I'm presuming and as is he that there's a leak since the car isn't a year old still. Is this something that will work in the meantime?

When dealing with service writers doing warranty work, just play stupid and do not diagnose anything. that is their job. Tell them your a/c does not work right and fix it. do not accept anything except free service and cold air on Monday.

if the guzzler is still under a warranty, do not touch anything, as it may void it.

its most likely not just low on R134. don't put more in. you may be able to damage the compressor.. then it will not be protected under warranty.. its most likely something electrical. its better to just wait some days till they can look at it.. rather than take a chance of messing it up more..

I could say check and be sure you have not broken any belts.. and attempt watching to see if the compressor comes on when you turn on the A/C. Its got two big hoses coming off of it and there are really two pully's, if the motor and clutch are working when the A/C is turned on you'll see the other one start spinning with it.. if it does not do anything.. you know its not freon.. meanwhile you may have to roll down the window, but I could definitly take it in.. and hopefully your warentee will cover your a/c

Wait for service. Adding R134 if your system has worked on a leak will not get you far, since the new R134 will leak out also.

Chrysler/Jeep has a long history of AC evaporator cores fracturing and leaking freon. also, you may have worked on a leak in any part of the system. Have you checked the AC fuse ? The electric clutch on the AC compressor is fused. If that blew, your electric clutch won't engage when the system calls for power.

I assume you have also checked the AC compressor belt to insure that it's tight and functioning.

leave it to JEEP to fix it if it's under warranty incase this voids your warranty and costs you big bucks.
