I need the push button for room since it',s in a 27 ford t can. but could like to change the motor. Will any other motor screw up to this trans or can I put the push button cables on another trans. the old 318 is a little large for the car and it',s been in there since the late 60',s and I'd like to make some changes

you can use a new model 318 in it without doing much changing on it, you don',t need an adapter for it, just make sure and use the older torque converter or you,ll have to have the newer one balanced,i did it before so I know it works,a 360 will also screw right up to that engine,if you use it remove the weight from the older model torque converter, the 360 is internally balanced, good luck.

I',ve bolted a 904 up to one of those old 318',s before and it worked with a little modification. So you may want to be able to screw up a newer 318,340 or 360 to the push button trans with maybe a bit of creativity. There are some neat performance parts out there for those old 318',s if you know where to look and it',s really a neat little engine design. The block can handle being bored out 120 over without needing to be sonic tested. The heads are polyspheric meaning similiar to a hemi head as the intake valve is located close to the intake and the exhaust valve is close to the exhaust port instead of inline like most v8',s.318340 stroker cranks will fit them also.Hughes cams custom grinds cams for the early 318',s also and offenhauser may still make a dual quad intake.La 318 pistons and rings will fit if you wanted to up the compression and bore it out. If you were wanting to use up a little extra building the early 318 you could have a distinctive and pretty powerfull T can.The 57 Fury with the 318 and factory dual quad setup put out the same hp as the 340 six pack did 290hp something to think about.PS Dodge man is incorrect the 318 is an internally balanced motor both the old one and the LA 318 the 360 is externally balanced and require the torque converter to be weighted for it.
